Prenatal DHA intake may lead to healthier children

DHA intake during pregnancy linked to more fat-free body mass at five years of age.

While researchers don't understand yet what the mechanism for this finding is, it's well established that the balance between omega-3 fatty acids and omega-6 fatty acids in early development affects the ratio of fat and muscle cells.

DHA, or docosahexaenoic acid, is one of two common components of fish oil along with EPA, or eicosapentaenoic acid. Many people do not consume enough fish to get the benefits of these vital nutrients, and supplementation is one way to ensure you're getting enough.
