Vitamin K Deficiency Linked to Osteoporosis, Cancer, and Heart Disease

Using the triage theory for micronutrients, noted researcher Dr. Bruce Ames and his team have linked vitamin K deficiency to multiple degenerative disease processes, including osteoporosis, cancer, and heart disease. Dr. Ames has called for Daily Recommended Intakes to be increased to prevent these and other diseases.

While it's important to note that Dr. Ames' team looked at vitamin K deficiency as a whole, as previous studies have indicated it is the vitamin K2 form that is most active in cardiovascular protection, both K1 and K2 forms have important functions in our cells.
